About

Makeal Flammini is an artist, illustrator, writer, and mother.

She was the recipient of the 2018 Nohl Fellowship Award in the Emerging Artist category. In her Nohl application, Flammini described herself as “a mom who hasn’t slept in four years. In the moments she is able to steal for herself, she is a painter who dreams of being a writer.”

Flammini was the co-host of the now defunct radio program The Wild Wild Midwest Variety Show, which aired on WMSE, and the co-creator of The Parachute Project, a roving arts group which held exhibitions in unused buildings throughout Milwaukee.

She is a graduate of UW-Milwaukee and lives in the Milwaukee area with her husband, two small children, and a dog named Winston Churchill.
